Many Grievances Over Supply Of Damaged And Defective Products By E-Com Companies

The government this week claimed that various complaints have been established regarding supply of damaged and defective products by online retail firms. In several cases users have been recommended to file complaints at suitable forums.

“Users are facing issues while doing payments in e-commerce,” claimed C R Chaudhary, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, in the Rajya Sabha’s written reply. He claimed that grievances associated to delivery of damaged and defective products and also non-delivery of goods are being established in the National Consumer Helpline, which is being operated by the Department of Consumer affairs.

“Grievances associated to e-commerce established in National Consumer Helpline are related to the concerned companies’ redressal. In some situations, users are suggested to file grievances in the suitable consumer forum for redressal,” he claimed further. He also claimed that the department of user affairs has issued Consumer Protection Bill 2018 on January 5, 2018, in the Lok Sabha.

There is condition for making of regulations by the central government to control e-commerce’s unjust trade practice. Department of Commerce has also started an initiative to frame an e-commerce’s national policy. According to Economic Survey 2017–2018, e-commerce industry in India is expected at USD 33 Billion with a 19.1% development.

Speaking of e-commerce, e-commerce company Infibeam last week claimed it has got approval of the shareholders to extend business in IT sector, raise Rs 2,000 Crore, and set up a payments bank. Shareholders of the firm have also permitted modification in its name to “Infibeam Avenues Limited” from “Infibeam Incorporation Limited,” as per media reports.

In its notice for the extra ordinary general conference, Infibeam had claimed that it will look for shareholders permission to apply for authorization for Payments Bank from the RBI (Reserve Bank of India). This was confirmed by the sources as well.
