Earlier in April 2018, the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA announced their collaboration to trace the possibility to get Martian soil samples back to Earth. Recently, the ESA offered a $5.2 Million contract to Airbus. The contract aims to plan a concept for a rover to collect those samples on the red planet.

ESA has selected Airbus’s teams in Stevenage and England as they are already in the process of building the ExoMars rover that is planned to travel to our neighboring planet in 2021. Unlike ExoMars and all its scientific instruments, the fetch rover’s distinct task is to discover and gather the containers of samples that are prepared and left behind by Mars 2020 rover of NASA. However, that doesn’t mean that designing the vehicle would be easy.

Mars 2020 will hunt up the soil samples that will be put in over 30 tubes. It will drop them at different points. The fetch rover that is proposed to head to the planet in 2026 should have the capability to find out them from a distance, autonomously reach to those locations, collect them up with the help of a robotic arm, and finally carry them in its storage space. It also should possess an ability to plan its driving route indecently every single day.

Ben Boyes, Team Lead, Airbus, stated that it will be a comparatively small rover of about 130 Kg. However, the necessities are very demanding. The proposed vehicle will need to cross large distances with a high degree of independence. It will have to plan its own path to get ahead day after day.

On a similar note, AVweb, aviation news site, has reported that Airbus may declare the new name to the C Series line of jets. The news site explained that the company will reveal the new name of C Series line of jets as A200 at the Farnborough International Air Show in England.
